greetings all, would a 97 jettta glx auto trans be compatible with my 97 jetta gls? thanks, tyler
« GLS and GLX is a trim package designation. Sunroof, radio, power windows, seats and such. It is not a drivetrain designation. If it helps transmissions from Golfs should be the same. »
« thanks jim, i appreciate it! »
« Will some Passats have the same transmissions also? I though that most '97 Jetta GLX had the VR6 engine in it and the GLS had the 4 cyl. »
« What do I know. Don't the Passats mount their 4 cyliner engines in a way that makes servicing everything an exercise in removing the front end of the car? That alternate mounting means the transmiss.. »

I've had problems with my turning signal lately, and now it doesn't work completely when i press on the brakes. Is this an expensive problem or would it be an easy fix. Thanks.
« You could have a simple corrosion problem or ground problem. Whatever the case, there isn't enough current flow through your tail light circuitry to supply the needed power to the rest of the bulb.. »
« Should be an easy fix and it is probably the grounds at the rear tail lights. Like Madesio said..............clean all corrosion off the terminals and bulbs and if you need to add a ground wire or.. »
« yep my money is on a bad ground at the taillamps too. »

I am looking to buy a used 2004 Jetta GL with just over 43k miles on it at a local used car dealer here. The price is within my range the only thing I am concerned about is hearing of issues with Jettas. On Consumer Affairs there are many issues brought forth by current and previous Jetta owner..
« You buy a car and things are going to break. Doesn't matter if it's a Honda, Toyota, VW, Chevy, Audi, Ford, etc! Consumer Affairs over the years have always gave VW's low ratings. That said... VW .. »
« L O N G warranty if possible and make sure you don't spend too much and try to get everything covered! Plastic things break and I am not a lover of the auto transmissions, but some are good. Wink.. »

Ok so i had fun this morning I got out of class and went to unlock my passenger side door and now that one wont work so I had to have a guy come and pop open the door for me. Hi everyone I just bought a 84' Jetta I just had a question right by the stick shift there are 3 gauges the first is the Voltage gauge, The second one says "BAR" on the top I'm not sure what this one is for and the last one on the right is degrees in celcius I think I spelled that right? « "BAR" is a measure of pressure and therefore it's probably an oil pressure gauge. in celcius I think I spelled that right? "celsius" Smile It's a temperature gauge, most likely water/coolant. Does it.. »
« I believe that is actually oil temperature as there is a water temp gauge in the main instrument panel. Had a similar gauge panel in my '84 GTI but instead of an oil pressure gauge it had a (busted.. »
« Thanks for the info guys »
